About
Ciera Onley
I’m originally from Philadelphia but I’m here in Pittsburgh as a sophomore journalism major at Point Park. At first it was a little tough being in a new city but now I think of Pittsburgh as a second home. Once a city girl, always a city girl. In addition to my journalism major I plan on earning a minor in either global cultural studies or English. Also, I am fairly active on campus as Black Student Union’s president, an Honor’s Program member and a writer for the Globe. My dream is to one day be a feature writer or advice columnist for a newspaper or magazine. I also would like to publish my poetry and teach dance classes at my old recreation center as well. At the end of my four years in college I am looking forward to traveling to Senegal, Africa to do volunteer work. My goal in life is to help and inform people from all walks of life by writing, teaching, or other creative works.
Crunch Time
We have all heard the expression “crunch time”, that time when yo buckle down and get things done before the final end. Well that term certainly fits the time of year for us college students. It’s time we get ready to finish up the semester and enjoy a month off before returning back after the new year. Finals are around the corner but so is the break. We just have to study hard and get through long sleepless nights.
My advice for surviving this time is to get sleep when you can, eat right, and do your work. We can look forward to all night cram sessions but sleep is important to the human body. We need to give our minds some hours of rest, off time. So not matter how much work yo have try and get some sleep. Even if it means not going out one night and sleeping in instead., sleep is more important. What use is all the information you studied if you can’t keep your eyes open for the test?
Nex, I suggest you eat right. This may be hard to do on a college budget and campus but it is not impossible. It’s about choosing the right things. Like getting a salad instead of pizza seven days a week. Or not going out to eat dinner every night. It’s simple really. Try and squeeze some vegetables and fruit in your diet. And try not to skip meals, especially not breakfast. It’s the most important meal of the day for a reason. Taking a test on an empty stomach is like driving a car without gas; your getting no where.
And last but surely not least. Actually this may be the most important thing: do your work. It’s so easy to put things off until the last minute but it’s not fun to put together an entire paper or project at midnight the night before it’s due either. It is best to just do the assignments to the best of of ability allowing time to make changes if needed. If we doing something the night before we most likely will not review and revise it. Done will be done instead of trying our best. Look on the bright side, once the work is done so is the course and your ready for break.
In the words of my mother “do your work”
