Oh October- Wait, November?!

I am Pittsburgh born and bread, but it still gets to me every year that the fall is so short and the temperatures go to winter and November comes so fast.  I love the cold but there must be an in-between.  I really thought it was going to go gradually this year but the weather caught me again, and boom there’s a chill. I’m glad though, I was sweating up in my room before when it was 90 degrees.

Anyway, so much has happened!  PWP (Pizza with the President) is going on with my floor and we have done pretty well I must say.  We had Mural Painting Weekend in October and on the Art for Art’s Sake floor, of course we went all artsy fartsy.  My residents and I did portraits of ourselves on the wall!  Then once that was all done, we got to customize our pictures.  It’s so cool, and inspired by a Pittsburgh native, Andy Warhol, “Art is what you make it”.  We’re very proud (and so going to win).

Then last week was the twitter contest that goes a long with PWP.  It is in all the better interest that the floor wins the twitter contest.  Well the first day was at FRANKTUARY!  If you remember last year, that is one of my favorite lunch spots downtown and I knew the scene right away when @PointParkU tweeted the picture clue.  I went out onto the floor to see who was awake and I got one of my residents, she made her twitter right then and there, then we went off to get the picture!  We won the first day.

Now tonight is the BIG finale.  The rally with President Hennigan and all the pizza!  The 13th floor has customized our shirts and we are ready to WIN!  Stay tuned to find out the 2011 winner of PWP!!!!

Here are just a few snap shots of us working on the mural and t-shirts :)

Emmi is doing a great job of painting the squares in.  After we blocked off the 41 squares for everyone on the floor at midnight when the competition began, we decided to start painting at 2 am.  We all finally called it quits around 3:45 am.
This is Laura Lee, she was the go-to girl for the mural.  So dedicated working late into the night with an ipod playing and brush in hand.
Sunday night was when all the portraits were done and we all got to put our personal touches on everything.  I’m that purple square in the middle, I put a pair of knitting needles with a ball of yarn! :) hehe
More Sunday night painting, down to the wire!
They’re looking so awesome :)
It’s GORGEOUS in person and trying to take a picture of the whole thing is hard.  You should come by the 13th floor to check it out.

Jillian and Alex are SPLATTER painting our floor t-shirts.  Each year the Art for Art’s Sake floor tries to tie dye or make some creative shirt, but we are the first year to SPLATTER paint our shirts.  I must say they look great.
Jazzy is great at making sure we got a little of each color on each shirt.  She enjoyed taking a little homework break.
Jillian and I are so dedicated our feet are splatter painted!  I now have a sweet pair of socks that are spatter painted.  Very proud actually :)

And finally the finished products.  If you can’t see that the front has “Believe it or not, I can actually draw” -Jean Michel Basquat  then there is a stick figure in the bottom corner & the back has a big 13 and carpe diem on the top.  We are very proud 13 floor members and we are SO GOING TO WIN!!!
